About Inside Kaohsiung

Two neighbors from Tainan, and a big harbor city in our backyard.

Hi, we're Vicky and Jason. Inside Kaohsiung is our guide to Taiwan's great southern port: a city we visit often, written for people visiting it now.

Our Kaohsiung

We live in Tainan, and Kaohsiung is very close. We come down often to see the sights, and we've done the Love River boat. We also pass through on the way to Kenting, which is why this guide covers the trip south too: if you're in Kaohsiung, Kenting is close enough that many visitors could, and should, do both.

When we were deciding where to live, we looked at Kaohsiung as a place to live. We liked Tainan's vibe more for our style, so that's where we live. But living in Tainan means Kaohsiung is our backyard: everything the big city has to offer is a short train ride away, and the trains between the two keep getting better.

Vicky

Vicky was born and raised in Tainan, next door. She brings the local's view: how Taiwanese people actually use the south, from the food to the ride home.

Jason

Jason is the foreigner of the pair. He has lived in Taiwan for around a decade. Like every newcomer, he had to learn things the hard way: which card to tap, which exit to take. That's exactly the stuff visitors need, so when something needs translating for a first-timer, that's Jason's job.

How we write this guide

Every fact on this site comes from an official source or established press, and every page says when we last checked it. Hours, fares and prices change, so we link the official pages and tell you to check before you go. We give the nearest MRT or light rail station for every place, and the ferry for Cijin. And we'll always be honest about what's worth your time.

Welcome to Kaohsiung. We're glad you're here.
